At LabGenius, we’re building a platform to discover revolutionary medicines using machine learning. We are looking for a passionate Senior or Associate Principal Protein Scientist or Antibody Engineer to join us on our mission as we combine Machine Learning (ML), robotic automation and synthetic biology to evolve next-generation protein therapeutics.
Your role
You’ll be a pivotal member of the wet lab team as an enabler of our Antibody Engineering Team. You’ll be experienced in protein or antibody engineering to a high and accountable standard, with experience in applying high-throughput molecular biology methods to protein production being a distinct advantage. Whatever your previous experience includes, you’ll inject passion and energy into everything you do. This position is a full-time laboratory-based role.
Your role at LabGenius will be varied, with clear communication being critical to your day-to-day interactions with the team. Being able to integrate your workflow with other teams, along with the ability to share findings in an articulate manner, will help you to achieve success within this position.
What you’ll do in this role
Propose and implement new scientific workflows, contribute to scientific decisions and drive innovation.
Lead drug discovery projects within the Antibody Engineering team by designing and producing high-quality proteins, antibodies and antibody-like fragments, from plate-based to litre-scale production.
Investigate, develop & onboard newly implemented or standard high-throughput molecular biology and protein workflows and experimental techniques.
Strive to improve data quality and throughput by optimising established workflows from protein expression, purification and protein QC.
QC analyse, interpret and troubleshoot protein production experiments working closely with the R&D teams.
Mentor and support the training of technical and non-expert colleagues in protein production.
Keep excellent experimental/data records for cross-functional teamwork and project learnings.
Organise and manage your time effectively, balancing competing priorities based on business goals and the focus of your wider team, to deliver to timelines where others are relying on you.
What we’re looking for
You have a PhD in protein/antibody engineering, protein biochemistry, or equivalent industry experience with significant wet-lab expertise in protein production techniques. Any relevant biotech or pharma experience is a distinct advantage.
You’re able to perform a wide range of molecular biology techniques, including: PCR, cloning, including, standard restriction enzyme, golden-gate, gibson cloning.
You have previously designed and successfully constructed high-throughput mammalian expression & protein purification methods, preferably employing laboratory automation.
You have the ability to generate and implement new ideas with excellent troubleshooting skills.
You’re comfortable with challenging yourself and acquiring unfamiliar scientific skills and knowledge.
You have excellent organisational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritise, define timelines and deliver to these commitments.
You’re self-motivated with a strong desire to make an impact, and bring a positive attitude to everything you do.
Experience in a business context, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Nice to have
You have experience in high-throughput protein assays, e.g., supernatant protein concentration screening using Luciferase or NanoBit
You are familiar with complex LIMS systems for data analysis and data integrity.
You are familiar with open source software and bioinformatics tools to support protein production analysis.
