As Engineering Manager at LabGenius, you will lead and further enhance our Software Engineering department, which includes work on ML Engineering (ML Ops), Data Engineering, Scientific Applications Engineering, and Technical Operations. Your technical roadmap will guide the development of cutting-edge data pipelines and ML models and products, all in pursuit of unprecedented bio-pharmaceutical discoveries. This role provides an exciting opportunity to make your mark in this entrepreneurial environment. You will report to the CTO and partner closely with other senior leaders in the technology organisation, including heads of Machine Learning, Automation, Protein Engineering, and others.
Our Software Engineering team is responsible for building software that glues together our therapeutic drug development platform. From making tools that help us experiment as efficiently as possible, to building a high quality experimental data platform, software is key to our success.
This role is hybrid-remote, with the expectation of a minimum of 3-days a week on site with some flexibility. It will important at first for the successful candidate to be on site as much as possible to embed and gain trust across the team.
What you’ll do in this role
- Define, together with the CTO, the software strategy and roadmap, make tactical decisions, and drive standards and practices for work.
- Drive and execute the company's software roadmap and strategy.
- Manage a group of 4-6 Software and Data Engineers to ensure they’re happy, motivated, focused and delivering incredible work.
- Support your team by providing continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognise the individual strengths and contributions.
- Diagnose and resolve people's problems between and within teams.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Instil a spirit of continuous improvement in the code, architecture, processes, and ways of working.
- Recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent to support the company's growth objectives.
What we’re looking for
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring engineers (4+ reports).
- Product and project management experience and skills: setting roadmaps, being organised and disciplined, showing attention to detail, and following up to ensure the right results.
- Strong foundations in software engineering, software design, and architecture.
- Experience building secure/scalable platforms/products on cloud platforms.
- An empathetic leadership style and you build strong, effective relationships.
- Good experience working with teams and stakeholders from a laboratory/scientific background.
- Good experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience partnering with research and data science/bioinformatics or cheminformatics teams.
- Experience partnering with executive stakeholders.
- Experience in the life sciences industry, ideally a pharma or biotechnology company.
- Familiarity with LIMS and ELN systems and their use in biotechnology companies.
